New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone! I rang in the new year driving through Dalton, GA. Exciting, huh?

Ever since I can remember, like most people I know, I’ve made New Year’s resolutions. Some were successful, some weren’t. But as I think about them all, one thought keeps resonating in my head. None of them were worthy of that much effort. And the more I think about it, the more the concept of making resolutions just because of a date change seems silly. Think about it. No one’s really resolving to end world hunger or cure cancer. Nope. We’re so wrapped up in our own narcissistic worlds that we make ourselves feel better by promising to do something for ourselves and act like we will have accomplished something if we actually reach our ‘lofty’ goals. So this year I’m keeping it simple: My New Year’s resolution is not to have a New Year’s resolution. I’ll simply try to have a better year than 2009 by working harder to put others before myself.
